Slow To Start But Still Worth Reading

This was Ms. Andersen's first story and although it was slow to start it is still a good story. More suspense then Romance but the story is still very good.
This is a story about a serial killer that is killing dancers in Reno. Amanda is a friend of one of his victims and is forced to identify her body. Tristan is a Seattle cop that has been brought to Reno to head the task force. He does not know how to handle himself around beautiful women and is shy. These two people have a hard time coming together but they finally do despite the fact or because of the fact that the killer has decided to worship or idol Amanda.
As stated earlier and by other reviewers this story was slow going and it took over 100 pages for the two main characters to even warm up to each other. This is really more of a suspense novel with a little romance on the side. Don't look for this book to be like Ms. Andersen's later books. Still this was a good story worth the time it took to read it.

Sexy and good for a quick read.

I found Shadow Dance to be an unusual kind of murder-thriller in that it involves just as much sex and romance as murder and mystery. A crazed killer is mutilating and murdering show girls at casinos around Reno.
Scot-American detective, Tristan MacLaughlin, is sent from Seattle to help the local police with their investigations and meets, and clashes head-on with Amanda Charles, a tall, beautiful dancer with a definite touch of class, and the sparks between them start to fly at once.
When Amanda's life is threatened, Tristan moves in with her as her bodyguard and the inevitable love affair begins. The mystery aspect of the book is negligible as the murderer is easily spotted and the book really revolves around the sexual tension between them. M/S Andersen writes very well about the sex part and, perhaps in later books, she will hone her skills as a mystery writer.

strong blending of mystery and romance

Experienced with ending the careers of serial killers, Seattle detective Tristan MacLaughlin is sent to Reno to head the task force trying to stop the Show Girl Slayer who has killed three local chorus line dancers. Tristan finds himself not wanting the job because he detests hoofers believing they are high-class hookers.

Dancing has been Amanda Rose Charles' life, however currently she is afraid of the killer who murdered a close friend. When Amanda meets Tristan, they immediately share a mutual dislike for one another. He thinks she is a whore and she believes he is a terse egotist. As they become acquainted, they begin to realize their stereotyping is way off base. Tristan sees refined elegance and Amanda observes a caring soul. Soon the couple falls in love, but the show stopping Show Girl Slayer still stalks the ballrooms.

Albeit a serial killer thriller, the lead couple's distinct and opposite personalities turn SHADOW DANCE into a strong police procedural romance. The investigation is fun to follow, but the relationship between the cop and the dancer lightens yet also intensifies the mood, which leads to the chase to stop the killer seemingly real. Readers will adore the intrepid yet reticent Tristan and cherish the lively Amanda. Though a reprint of Susan Anderson's debut novel, the tale remains a strong blending of mystery and romance that fans of both genres will appreciate.

Pascal Le Masson is Professor of Design, Innovation and Management at Mines ParisTech. He is a professor of the Chair of Design Theory and Methods for Innovation and the head of the Engineering Design and Management Curricula. His work focuses on the management of innovative design capabilities. He is working with leading companies in innovation management (such as Renault, STmicroelectronics, Dassault Systèmes, Saab Aerospace, Schlumberger, Vallourec-Mannesmann and Areva), in partnerships with a number of leading universities, including Chalmers University of Technology, Aachen RWTH, Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon and Tel Aviv University.

the authors created a book with a few case studies and a bit of historical overview on the emergence of research labs and r&d departments in such a way as to weave a path of understanding on WHERE and HOW your organizational structure ought to go to innovate. It makes the distinctions clear on the innovation activities that are undertaken by many communities (research, engineering and design) and what to do to unify these actions in a concerted way. The reader quickly realizes the limitations that existing structures may create…then you will read about various skunkworks structures and how they affect innovation. Thoughout the text there is strong links that innovation is based on the learning organization, and the creativity tool CK that expands knowledge is shown in great detail in the last chapters.
I recommend that the reader makes 2 passes to read this; first read it quickly and highlight only the most prominent info that strikes your judgement, then after a few months, re read more slowly and in detail … and you will likely find that now your judgement is changed on issues of organizations that you thought were fine… when in fact they are not. so this book is not pop-music simple to read, it will become a reference.

Fantastic book for beginners to Cyber Security

Being a person who is unashamedly lazy when it comes to reading, I knew I was looking for a book that would keep my interest and not get too bogged down in the jargon and technical terms of Cyber Security. After all, I was a beginner and I didn’t want to overwhelm myself any more than I knew it would be, being such an extensive subject.

Having become increasingly more interested in the world of Cyber Security, I sought out the best possible book for me to get my teeth into. Searching Amazon, I was presented with a smörgåsbord of books, which no doubt we all have experienced with the more popular subject matters.

Cyber Security for Beginners caught my attention, admittedly, by its title and eye-catching front cover (Yes, I am one of those that will use my visual senses first!). I took a “punt” and ordered the book.

One of the first things that sent my imagination into overdrive was the mention of a Faraday Cage. Don’t know what it is? Essentially, it’s a cage that can protect devices from an EMP attack (Electromagnetic Pulse). How very James Bond!

Boyish imagination to one side, this book did not read like a technical manual and neither did it come across in a pompous or IT elitist manner. Cyber Security for Beginners was really a book written for beginners. There are clear explanations for all aspects of Cyber Security, as well as a little extra information for the more challenging parts of the subject. In addition, there is a glossary at the back of the book for further reference. The book gave me the confidence to take my interest one step further by beginning studying for the relevant IT certifications. I now use it as a reference to certain components of Cyber Security for my IT studies.

Cyber Security for Beginners is a book I would highly recommend, if only to begin to understand how Cyber Security affects every person and why we need to be that little more vigilant online. I think the real bonus was the personable nature the author put across in his style of writing. He was humble, patient with his explanations and even humorous, at times.

Surprisingly enjoyable and easy to read

I was surprised how enjoyable I found this book. Cyber security is a potentially dry topic but this makes it interesting, informative and engaging - it used good, clear examples at each step. It wasn’t too long and it didn’t get caught up in technical detail - but it did cover all of the main components and objectives that running cyber for an enterprise environment requires.
This book unpacked the subject in a straightforward and understandable way. I think it is great if you want to get into this subject as a profession or just need to understand it for work, as a journalist, business exec etc. Highly recommended.

Phyllis Hostmeyer lives in Southern Illinois, but is a Language Arts consultant for Educational Resources Group, Inc. of Charleston, South Carolina. (www.ergsc.com) A frequent speaker and presenter throughout Illinois, Phyllis has also worked as a language arts consultant throughout the country and abroad. She conducts a range of workshops on reading, writing, assessment, poetry, and other topics. But her favorite presentations revolve around the sentence patterns. In addition, Phyllis is a professional storyteller who turns fables and fairy tales into rap, jazz, and ballads. She also does Bible tellings and has traveled to Israel as part of an American Bible telling team. She uses her storytelling skills to bring life and learning to her educational workshops.
